During COVID, there’s been lots of time to write, maybe not as often in coffee shops, but time seems to have slowed down in many ways. In 2021, I serendipitously landed in an 8-week intensive with Natalie Goldberg (Writing Down the Bones).
My writing routine morphed as I re-engaged with a part of myself I’d been ignoring. Weeks before my 50th birthday, I experienced a series of unexplained strokes. A decade later, Natalie’s methodology provided a sideways into my stroke experience, a time when I wasn’t able to get the right words out of my head to explain what I meant.
If you’ve had a significant life event where you on the outside seems different than you on the inside — writing provides a way to express yourself to yourself.
